Dalmatian cities have so much to offer anyone who decides to visit them. From a long history and rich cultural heritage, to fantastic restaurants, tempting beaches and connections to numerous islands, every traveler will easily find something he or she enjoys.
And if you enjoy traveling and especially day trips, Šibenik is an ideal city to visit, primarily because of its location.
Namely, from Šibenik you can easily reach many other beautiful places in Dalmatia, among them Zadar, the pearl of the northern part of this region and definitely a place you must visit at least once. Zadar has so many well-known places that missing the opportunity to visit it would be a real sin.
Whether you live in Šibenik or are just visiting, taking a day to "jump" to Zadar will always prove to be a great decision.
The road from Šibenik to Zadar
It is very easy to get from Šibenik to Zadar by car, as these two cities are connected by two important roads. A slightly faster option is to take the A1 motorway (Zagreb – Split) and you will be at your destination in about an hour.
However, if you are not in a hurry, and especially if this trip is part of your vacation, we heartily recommend the Adriatic Highway. This road will take you along the Dalmatian coast and offer you a wealth of beautiful scenery and views of the islands of Pašman and Ugljan, beyond which you can see the rest of the magical Zadar archipelago, and closer to Šibenik is Murter.
So, if you want to really enjoy the ride to Zadar, all you need to do is contact Taxi Šibenik and leave yourself in the safe hands of our experienced drivers. Combined with reliable vehicles, you will be completely free to soak up every scene of this beautiful stretch.
What to see in Zadar?
As we've already said, Zadar is full of fantastic sights and places you should visit. For example, did you know that the Zadar Forum is the largest Roman forum on this side of the Adriatic Sea? And right next to it is the Church of St. Donatus, also one of the symbols of the city. Here you can also find a nice cafe and escape the heat (if you're coming in the summer, of course) with a refreshing drink or coffee, and thanks to the view of this old part of the city, the feeling will be very special.
Another thing you shouldn't miss is a walk around the outer part of the Zadar peninsula, where the old part of the city is located. Not only will you be able to study the city walls in detail, but at the top of the peninsula you will be able to see and hear two modern art installations that have made the city famous – Greeting to the Sun and the Sea Organ.
The sea organ is "played" by the Adriatic Sea itself, which pushes air through pipes dug into the shore with its waves, thus producing a unique "melody", so take a moment and sit on the nearby steps and enjoy something unique. Just a little further from that place is Greetings to the Sun, an installation consisting of solar panels that light up once the sun sets. If you can, come to this place at dusk and enjoy the sunset that the great Orson Wells described as the most beautiful in the world.
Of course, Zadar offers much more – stroll along the famous Kalelarga, visit Trg pet bunara and generally enjoy everything that makes old Mediterranean cities so attractive. Narrow stone streets and a lively city center will fill you with positive emotions.
It should certainly be said that Zadar also has excellent museums that are well worth visiting. The Museum of Illusions will entertain you, and the Museum of Ancient Glass and the Archaeological Museum will tell you incredible stories about the ancient Roman Iadera, Zadar in Roman times.
All in all, Zadar is well worth a visit, and your day there will be filled with opportunities for sightseeing and enjoyment. And if you get too hot, you can always head to Kolovare beach, a favorite beach in Zadar that is located very close to the peninsula and the old town, so you won't have to waste much time after sightseeing.
Organize a fantastic trip
Zadar, therefore, offers its guests everything they need for a wonderful day in a beautiful Mediterranean city. Historical sights that date back to ancient times and modern art installations that have made this city recognizable on the world map. All of this is spiced up with an incredibly attractive old town, cozy cafes, excellent restaurants, and Kolovare beach is nearby if you want to take a swim.
